As a Sushi Chef, this position will be responsible for preparing and filling customer orders and handling food in a safe manner. You will order and receive products; ensure orders are correct; label, date and put product away. Additionally, you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members. Primary duties include preparing fresh sushi for customers both packaged and made-to-order, providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, greeting customers, answering telephone calls, assisting customers with product location and other needs, working as a team and providing training, practicing proper sanitation procedures, overseeing food ordering and planning, communicating with customers regarding food preparation, aiding in merchandising techniques and food layout, attending company and industry meetings, adhering to company policies, and reporting to work on time. Secondary duties include planning and performing fresh sushi demonstrations, staying current on meal trends and menu planning, and performing other job-related duties and special projects. Education and experience required include a high school diploma or equivalent, Hy-Vee food safety training, Food Safety Certification, and one to three years of similar or related work experience. Physical requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently and 10 pounds constantly, good vision, and the ability to perform various physical activities. The working environment is fast-paced with exposure to raw fish, flour, dust, noise, temperature extremes, and occasional cleaning chemicals. Equipment used includes ovens, steamers, scales, mixers, shrink wrap machines, registers, walk-in coolers, knives, serving cases, and ordering systems.
