Opportunity Overview

The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) is a strategic executive committed to delivering a best-in-class scalable HR infrastructure and operations while nurturing and developing a strong team. The VP of HR will lead the design, development, and implementation of value-creating HR initiatives across all locations. The individual in this role will be responsible for HR strategy, including recruiting & retention, employee relations, and training & development. The VP of HR for All Flex Solutions reports to the Chief Executive Officer and serves as a key member of the company’s executive team.

The Position

Reporting to the CEO, the VP of HR is responsible for providing leadership and direction across the four All Flex Solutions locations regarding all areas of human resources to meet the strategic needs of the company while initiating efforts to increase employee productivity, retention, and satisfaction. The VP of HR leads the HR function, managing and developing a team of dedicated HR generalists to support the organization’s growing HR needs.

As a member of the executive team, the successful candidate must be an effective, collaborative leader who maintains a strong focus on employee relations and talent development to support a quality conscious, productive workforce in a safe environment. The VP of HR will also collaborate with other leaders throughout Granite Partners and the Granite Companies as a member of the HR Affinity.

Major elements of the VP of HR’s responsibilities include:

  • Serves as a strategic partner with the rest of the executive team in setting direction for the company and providing insight on team, talent, culture, and wellbeing to help craft strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Leads the HR function across the four sites of All Flex Solutions, including facilities in Northfield and Bloomington, Minnesota. This leadership includes developing common processes, practices, and benefits across the company while embracing local site practices.
  • Develops, manages, and administers policies and programs including employment, employee training and development plans, onboarding, compensation, workers compensation, safety, performance management, wellbeing, and inclusion (including EEO/affirmative action). Updates the Employee Handbook as policies change.
  • Develops and administers HR and organizational policies and procedures to promote employee satisfaction and influence continual improvements throughout the organization.
  • Leads communication and planning around changes in federal and state employment laws, advising on employee relations issues, organizational realignments, personnel impact of corporate acquisitions and mergers, and other HR-related functions as required.
  • Oversees recruitment strategy and implementation for both production and office needs, ensuring production recruiting volume and quality meet the needs for business growth; recruits top talent for various leadership and individual contributor roles across the company.
  • Leads the HR team and works with others to develop and maintain company job descriptions, skills/training matrix, and performance management systems, including leading the annual review process and recommending leadership and management trainings.
  • Manages and monitors all benefit programs (health care, savings, etc.) to ensure that costs are predictive and controlled and that program specifics are addressed to ensure that employee needs have been given the appropriate attention and benefits are competitive to attract and retain talent. Collaborates with the HR Affinity and the CEO regarding All Flex Solutions’ 401(k) plan, health, vision, dental, and other benefit vendor offerings.
  • Develops and administers competitive compensation and benefits programs; participates in compensation and benefit surveys, monitors benchmarks, and analyzes market trends.
  • Leads the executive team in an annual talent review and succession planning exercise.
  • Analyzes and recommends training needs for employees and supervisory-level staff members relevant to maintaining good working relationships and managing people.
  • Investigates employee complaints and disputes; works with leaders across the organization to administer disciplinary actions, suspensions, and terminations when needed.
  • Leads or participates in quarterly all employee meetings and occasional daily meetings to communicate critical HR information.
  • Leads special talent acquisition programs, including local high school internship programs and college internship or coop programs.
  • Serves as an employee advocate and retention coach, encouraging effective communications, problem resolution, and ongoing training/development toward job satisfaction and growth; conducts both ‘stay’ and ‘exit’ interviews.
  • Participates in HR organizations including SHRM, Enterprise MN, Granite Partners’ HR Affinity, GLASH and Safety Committee as well as local Chambers of Commerce, United Way, and other organizations as applicable.

Candidate Profile

Qualified candidates will have 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in all facets of human resources within a successful manufacturing company with at least 5 years leading and developing other HR professionals. The ideal candidate will be a generalist with a demonstrated track record of success and accomplishment. An undergraduate degree or equivalent is required; advanced degree and/or PHR or SPHR certification is considered a plus.

The VP of HR must possess a thorough knowledge of all aspects of human resources management, including policies and practices as well as benefit and compensation programs. Excellent business acumen, financial aptitude, and interpersonal skills are required, as is the ability to establish immediate credibility at all levels, inside and outside the organization. The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, as well as proven facilitation skills and a demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain poise in sensitive circumstances is essential.

The successful candidate will possess a willingness to “roll up the sleeves” to accomplish business objectives and be confident, assertive, and have a positive attitude. The ability to work effectively in a changing, growing environment with multiple tasks is a must. The candidate must be action-oriented, well organized, capable of influencing others, and, above all else, collaborative. An aptitude for accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently is critical. Computer proficiency, including experience with Human Resources Information Systems, is required.

This individual must have the ability to create consultative business partnerships and serve as a key advisor to the leadership team, including the ability to develop members of the management team to be more effective in their roles. Experience establishing and implementing human resources best practices and raising the overall level of sophistication of the function is required. Extensive knowledge of employment and compensation laws and the application of programs and controls for proper administration, compliance, and effective mitigation of related risk is essential, as is knowledge of environmental health and safety management.

Location

All Flex Solutions is headquartered in Northfield, Minnesota, and has four Minnesota manufacturing facilities: one in Northfield and three in Bloomington, Minnesota. The VP of HR will be based in Bloomington. Working arrangements will include being onsite mainly in Bloomington with occasional time spent in Northfield.

Compensation & Benefits

We offer a competitive base salary in the $170,000 to $200,000 range, based on experience and qualifications, along with an annual bonus and the opportunity to participate in long-term incentives, including a stock appreciation rights (SARs) program.
