Under the direction of the SLO-Hub Program Supervisor, the Mental Health Counselor works in collaboration with the contract clinical supervisor to provide assessment and therapeutic intervention for clients within the SLO-Hub program. The Mental Health Counselor will have knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of psychotherapy and a variety of treatment modalities, including interventions for individuals struggling with mental health and substance abuse (dual-diagnosed disorders). They uphold all Federal, State, and local regulations relating to mental health practice. Additionally, the Mental Health Counselor supports CAPSLO’s mission by providing direct services to clients to help them achieve and maintain self-sufficiency. Qualifications: Must have one of the following licenses: Licensed Marriage Family Therapist Associate Marriage and Family Therapist Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate Clinical Social Worker Clinical Psychologist Associate Professional Clinical Counselor Education: A two-year Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a mental health related field. Registered Intern preferred. Experience: Two years of professional mental health therapy experience in working with homeless individuals and/or individuals struggling with substance abuse and/or mental health issues. Must have obtained ACSW or AMFT within 30 days of hiring. Preference to individuals who have already achieved LMFT, LCSW, or other mental health licensure. Must have dependable, insured transportation, and a valid California Driver License (mileage to be reimbursed) with an acceptable driving record. While driving is preferred, it is not required for the position. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred but not required. As the Mental Health Counselor you will: Conduct preliminary mental health evaluations for referred clients. Perform the Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) Assessment to officially open cases. Develop and implement effective treatment plans using various modalities. Collaborate with the SLO-Hub Case Manager, Peer Support Specialist, and community agencies. Stay informed about best practices for dual-diagnosed clients and attend relevant trainings. Provide counseling services in diverse settings, including Prado HSC, recovery housing, and client homes. Offer therapy services during non-traditional hours as needed (weekends, evenings). Maintain accurate case files and documentation, ensuring confidentiality. Participate in evaluation activities and community meetings.
