This position will support the growing aggregate, materials and paving businesses found within the Granite Companies of Memphis Stone and Gravel, Lehman-Roberts and Dickerson & Bowen. This role will be hired as a Memphis Stone & Gravel employee and will contribute to designing and developing safe and efficient mine plans for existing and future aggregate operations including phased mine development, processing and reclamation to maximize the mineral resource value. This position calls Memphis, Tennessee home, allowing access to the city’s warm hospitality, legendary barbecue and a lively arts and culture scene; the perfect balance of a dynamic urban environment with access to beautiful natural surroundings. Essential Job Accountabilities include systematically upgrading mine plans through detailed analysis on mining methods, modeling, and integration of geologic data to maximize reserves, efficiency, safety and profitability; supporting Continuous Improvement of materials operations by identifying, leading and participating in improvement projects; developing short and long term mining plans for field operations including overburden removal, mine development, reclamation, equipment selection, permitting, drainage, and waste management; supporting permitting efforts by creating application drawings or working with consultants; conducting operational analysis including aggregate plant design, process equipment selection, layout, budgeting, and benchmarking; developing and directing implementation of erosion controls, BMP’s, sediment and water retention basins including hydrologic evaluations and levee and impound design and construction. Education required is a Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering or related field, with licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) desired. Work experience preferred includes 4+ years in short and long term mine planning, 1-2 years with aggregate plant equipment, and 1-2 years in construction materials or geotechnical fields. Background in Continuous Improvement is desired. Skills include proficiency in ESRI products, SURPAC, MINESCHED, AggFlow, Microsoft Office, Adobe Illustrator, and strong communication and decision-making skills. Physical demands include ability to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and work on rugged terrain. Additional requirements include compliance with corporate safety initiatives and a valid driver’s license.
